When in doubt…
Advice from Mercedes Lackey when I was stuck on a plot point:
The answer is always “Two guys bust through the door, guns blazing.”
It worked! It was just what I needed to get my heroes to the next set piece.
Now, mind you, the heroes live in an ancient setting bereft of guns, but the basic premise applies. I was about to write a long, philosophical conversation between the protagonist and the (potential) villain about the merits of sparing their lives. I know, sounds boring, but I like me some thoughtful, boring writing sometimes! My book (The Quartz Odalisque, part two of the Aqua Pura trilogy… did I mention I named the trilogy? booyah!) isn’t a slam bang actionfest. The build up to the battle scene is more important than the battle itself. I’m a bit backwards that way.
Glee!
