Postcards from the Edge
A childhood friend, Justin Lundgren, has made much more of himself than I have. He’s a doctor in NoLa, and now he’s being profiled on NPR for his inventive art project: leaving postcards with messages and postage on the sidewalks and cafes. 53% of the cards were mailed by obliging passersby, but Justin’s results varied depending on the story on the back of the card.
What a great idea! I bet we’re going to see all sorts of copycats littering the sidewalks with their imitations, but remember: the originator of the idea came from MY NEIGHBORHOOD, YO!

that is fucking Awesome - what a great project!
hey - you’re in Portland, aren’t you? speaking of great projects - how’s that horsering thing going by you? have you seen any horses yet?
xoxoxox
Horsering? OH!
That explains the plastic horse on the sidewalk.
You see, in Portland, weirdness abounds. One becomes accustomed to it. What might seem daring and cutting edge in NoLa is more commonplace here, and so loses some of its specialness. Which is not to say it’s invalidated, but rather that it adds to an overarching dialog of alternate communications here.
I.e. people do cool shit like that all the time here. I love this city.
i found out about the horsering thing by accdent a few months ago, through the blog of an acquaintence of an acquaintence - a woman who’s given up her car to bicycle & is keeping track of what she considers things one wouldn’t catch while driving. *anyway* i was fascinated as she was unravelling the mystery & then finally found out what the scoop is (apparently it’s random installation art - woot!)
what i’m saying is that i love Portland too, even tho’ i’ve only ever visited once.
